Bidet taps: choosing single-lever, concealed or waste-equipped models

Grifería de bidé: monomando, empotrada y con válvula de desagüe, qué elegir - Noluxa

The bidet is one of the pieces in the bathroom where the taps have the most room for customisation. Unlike a basin, here the jet does not just open and close: it has to fall into the basin precisely, adapt to the hole where you are going to install it and, in some models, also solve the drain. Before deciding on a deck-mounted single-lever mixer or a wall-mounted tap, it is important to understand what each type solves, what an adjustable aerator is really for, and whether you need the tap to include automatic waste fitting or if you prefer an independent tap.

Quick answer

If your bidet has the traditional hole on the back, a short-spout deck-mounted single-lever mixer (series such as Nassau, Valencia, Luxor, Milos Stick or Bélgica) is the easiest option to install and maintain. If you are looking for a minimalist aesthetic without a tap resting on the ceramic, or the bidet does not have that hole, you need a tap built into the wall (Bless or Line series). In both cases, check that the aerator is adjustable to direct the jet well, and if you do not want to handle a manual cap, choose a model with integrated automatic waste fitting.

Deck-mounted mixers or concealed taps: two bidet solutions

The first decision, before looking at finishes or series, is where the body of the tap will live: resting on the bidet tile or hidden inside the wall. Both types perform the same function—mixing hot and cold water and directing it into the bucket—but they completely change the installation, maintenance, and final appearance.

Short-spout deck-mounted mixers

It is the most common format in renovations that do not touch the plumbing installation. The body is screwed directly onto the hole in the pottery and is connected from below with two flexible connectors to the hot and cold water taps. A single knob controls opening, closing and temperature mixing with a single movement.

The spout in these models is intentionally short, more so than in a basin tap: the bidet is a compact piece and a long spout would direct the jet away from the basin or generate splashes against the edge. Series such as IMEX Nassau and IMEX Valencia , or the Lúxor , Milos Stick and Bélgica models, follow this approach: a compact body, short spout and single handle, with different aesthetic lines—from rounded profiles to more geometric stick-type designs—to adapt to the rest of the bathroom taps.

Concealed wall taps

Here the body with the mixing cartridge is embedded in the wall, generally during the construction or tiling phase, and only the spout and external control remain visible. It is the obligatory solution in two scenarios: bidets without a hole for deck-mounted taps (some suspended models or models with very minimalist lines are manufactured like this) and bathrooms where a completely clean ceramic surface is sought, without any element on the edge.

Models such as Bless or Line (Line series) are designed for this assembly: they require the water outlet and the concealed box to be provided before closing the tiling, so it is a decision that is made in the renovation project, not afterward.

Adjustable aerators and the user experience

The aerator is the small threaded piece at the tip of the spout that mixes the water with air before it comes out. Its technical function is to dampen the outlet pressure and reduce splashes, but in a bidet tap it also fulfills a role that it does not have in a basin or a kitchen: directing the jet exactly towards the center of the basin.

Since the spout of a bidet is short and the exit point is very close to the edge, a misalignment of a few degrees can cause the jet to fall off-center. An adjustable aerator allows you to correct this direction without moving the body of the tap or disassembling anything, something especially useful if the bidet was installed slightly offset from the axis of the tap or if several people in the household use the piece with different preferences for the position of the jet.

Air + water
The aerator mixes air with the outlet water to reduce its impact pressure and splashing; In the short spout of a bidet, the fact that it is also adjustable is what allows the jet to be directed precisely towards the center of the bucket.
General operating principle of tap aerators.

When comparing deck-mounted models, it is a detail that is worth reviewing in the product's technical data sheet, along with the finish: not all aerators rotate with the same amplitude, and in concealed taps this orientation may also be conditioned by the fixed position of the spout on the wall.

Automatic wastes: benefits and when they are optional

The bidet, unlike the basin, is usually used with the bowl full of water, so it needs a system to cover and empty it. There are two ways to solve it: with an independent plug that is placed and removed by hand, or with an automatic waste fitting — also called click-clack — integrated into the set of taps itself, which is operated with a handle or button from the same body of the single-lever mixer.

The advantage of the integrated valve is convenience: it opens and closes without bending down or manipulating any rubber, and visually everything is resolved with the same finish as the tap. The advantage of an independent waste plug or click-clack is that, if it fails or wears out over time, it is replaced by itself without touching the rest of the taps, and they exist as a replacement in the NOLUXA bathroom accessories collection.

It is not a minor detail when comparing prices between two seemingly similar single-lever bidet mixers: always check the product sheet to see if the drain is included in the set or is sold separately, because it changes both the final budget and the installation.

Deck-mounted versus concealed: installation, maintenance and appearance

Put in a table, the contrast between the two types of bidet taps becomes clearer:

Criterion single-lever deck-mounted mixer concealed tap
Facility Directly on the bidet hole, with flexible connectors. It does not require work or touching the tiling. It is necessary to plan the box and the water outlet before tiling. It is planned in the reform phase.
Maintenance Cartridge and aerator accessible from outside; A fault is checked without work. The cartridge remains behind the wall; requires the registration provided for in the facility for any intervention.
Aesthetics tap visible on the ceramic; It adds volume and is consistent with classic or contemporary style bathrooms. Completely clear ceramic; Fits with minimalist bathrooms or bidets without a deck-mounted hole.
Compatibility You need a bidet with a tap hole and taps accessible under the piece. Valid for both bidets with or without a hole, as long as there is a concealed pipe prepared.

Bidet finishes and series

One of the criteria that most influences the final decision is being able to maintain the same finish on the entire bathroom tap—basin, shower or bathtub and bidet—so it is a good idea to check what colours each series offers before choosing:

  • Milos Stick (single-lever deck-mounted mixer): Chrome, Matt White, matt black and Rose Gold Black.
  • Bélgica (single-lever deck-mounted mixer): Chrome and matt black.
  • Lúxor (single-lever deck-mounted mixer): available in Chrome.
  • Bless (concealed tap): Chrome, Black Gun Metal, matt black, brushed nickel, brushed gold and brushed rose gold.
  • Line (concealed tap): Chrome, matt black, brushed nickel and brushed gold.

If your shower or basin already has a specific finish—Black Gun Metal, brushed nickel, brushed gold—, starting by looking for that same finish in the bidet range (deck-mounted or concealed, depending on your installation) is the most direct way to ensure that the entire bathroom is uniform, instead of choosing the shape first and adapting the colour later.

Important

A concealed tap requires a water shut-off and a leak check before closing the tiling: a leak detected later means chipping the wall. If you are not going to carry out the installation yourself, reserve it for an installer with experience in built-ins and confirm the measurements of the box with the technical data sheet of the model before closing the work project.

Choosing bidet taps for your bathroom

As a quick guide to decide without hesitation:

  • Partial renovation, without touching the water installation: single-lever deck-mounted mixer. It is the option that requires the least work and the one that you can replace yourself if the current model fails.
  • Bidet without deck-mounted hole, or with very suspended and minimalist lines: concealed tap, already foreseen in the plumbing project.
  • Small bathroom where every centimeter of visible china counts: the concealed space clears the surface of the bidet and gives the sensation of more space.
  • You want to avoid handling a plug: look for a model with automatic waste fitting integrated into the body of the tap itself.
  • You are looking for coherence with the rest of the bathroom: start from the finish already chosen in the shower or basin and locate that same reference within the bidet, deck-mounted or concealed range.

Quick tab

  • Single-lever deck-mounted mixer: short spout, screws onto the bidet hole, without any work. Ex: Nassau, Valencia, Luxor, Milos Stick, Bélgica.
  • concealed tap: body embedded in the wall, for bidets without a hole or minimalist aesthetics. Ex: Bless, Line.
  • Adjustable aerator: allows the jet to be directed towards the center of the bucket without moving the tap.
  • automatic waste fitting: integrated in some sets, it is activated from the tap itself; If it is not included, it exists as an independent spare part.
  • Available finishes: Chrome, matt black, Matt White, Black Rose Gold, Black Gun Metal, brushed nickel and brushed gold, depending on the series.
